Ocean Rescue in Round the World Yacht Race31 year old skipper Piers Dudin has broken his leg while sailing in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Dudin had been racing the yacht Hull & Humber across the Pacific for over ten days when he accidentally fell, resulting in a serious open fracture to his right leg. When the accident occured, the Hull & Humber crew were on their way from Qingdao, China, to San Francisco, USA.

Irish Times: Volvo Ocean Race to finish in Galway in 2012

[Source: Irish Times] Brian Cowen is expected to confirm this week that the next Volvo around the world yacht race will finish in Galway in 2012. Mr Cowen is expected to make the announcement in Dublin, when he will explain that the race festival will be an “all-island” affair.
The international fleet berthing in Galway will earn double points for a circumnavigation of Ireland after their global transit. The Volvo 70 racing yachts will then return to Galway for a final weekend of festivities.
