10th day of sailing and 9th Moth entry at Kieler Woche
A nice breeze on Friday evening, the 25th, left me satisfied with my progress on the Moth. Had some good controlled downwind flights and more decent tacks than bad ones. There was a junior Team with a 29er out on the water whom I could beat upwind, coming from behind and there was a Laser SB3 upwind whom I could not pass due to some very bad tacks at the end of my session. All in all it was good to meet with other boats. It is motivating a lot.The "happiness" after sailing with the Moth came maybe due to changes in my "training plan". So to speak, as I really have not specified anything, just more hours on the tramp... Nevertheless I decided to give up practising the foiling gybes as I did not see any progress, instead I practised long and controlled down wind runs. For the jibes I put the hull in the water and got the boat around without fuss. Less capsizing, staying dry and more fun had been the result. This is like the beginning of slalom windsurfing which I did so many years ago, I cannot remember the exact year. (Anybody from KAFC here to give me a hint?) We shared the SAILBOARDER mag from the States and there had been an article written by Ken Winner which ended like: "Don´t buy whips and chains, buy slalom gear!" That pulled the trigger within our group and I would be more than happy, if anyone would come out of the closet to buy a Foiler Moth now. Uuuhps, wanted to say only that first you had to be able to fast on a straight line and than later get around the bend (jibe). If executing a real powerjibe, the board gliding through the 180°, the feeling was just great. Screaming out loud! But it took time to learn and it did not happen with every jibe. Saturday and Sunday there had not been enough wind to go foiling. I prefered to play the "good man staying home". Doing some gardening on Saturday and visiting the County gardenshow (Landesgartenshau) please go to: http://www.lgs2008.de/ here in Schleswig on Sunday. A must see! Great garden architecture. All beautifully lined up on the shore of the Schlei.Today I managed to put my entry in at Kieler Woche. http://www.kielerwoche.de/segeln/online. A bit disturbing how much time it took me online. My Browser (Safari 3.1) could not really read and put me through. A different compie with the Firefox did it easy. I am the ninth Moth which is registered. It is early time for Kiel of course but it is also a step forward in the program.Picture: To draw your attention to the Landesgartenschau I put on some "gardening" from a sunflower field which I had planted 5 years ago. Now there is a warehouse on that field.Segeln, sailing, sailracing, kiten, Iceboating, DN, Regattataktik, windsurfen, Dinghy sailing, Jollensegeln, IMS, Sportboats, Sportboote Full Story »
