2008 Coral Reef Cup
The second annual Coral Reef Cup begins tomorrow. The Coral Reef Yacht club is expecting 25-30 Etchells for this event. The Coral Reef Cup began as a way to allow Etchells competitors to have one more regatta after the Jaguar Series concluded. Since everyone’s boat is already in Miami it make’s a lot of sense to have one more weekend. The ninety boat Jaguar Series is like a frat party that lasted all winter. Great sailing and great committee work has kept this series growing year after year. The Coral Reef Cup is more like an intimate dinner party with friends. No windward gates, a few more holes on the starting line and more space at the windward mark. Not to say the Coral Reef Cup won’t be competitive but there will be 20-30 boats converging at the windward mark instead of the 80-90 we have seen this winter. We decided to enter the Coral Reef Cup to have some more time in our new boat. We were adjusting the rigging and even adding new rigging throughout the mid winter regatta. We had to increase the purchase of our back stay system. And add some new cleats for the spinnaker sheets among other adjustments. This regatta will give more time to fine tune the running rigging. We will also play with the rig tune in different conditions. Like every new boat it take some time to find the sweet spots. The weekend weather forecast looks very light. The regatta should start out in the 2-7 know category and build over the weekend. I will post some short daily reports after racing each day. Hope you enjoy them. Full Story »
