Bungling Buffoonery...
There is so much disquiet coming out of New Zealand right now about this fantastical court case of Grant Dalton's and between the lines there's a constant theme emerging that would seem to suggest that Dalton is doing this to save face as his staff are forced to take redundancy. There are so many questions to be answered here, principally: what happened to all the money and assurances that TNZ received to allow this situation to happen? I had an email today saying that Dalton had "bought a $3 million section in Queenstown"...that's a lot of money for a journey-man yachter (about £1 million) which had to have been accumulated somehow from sailing (although since posting this, someone from Vancouver has said that "he inherited money from a rich grandfather" - still not sure on this one..)...To be honest I just keep smelling something in the air here. Maybe it's the chance to play with the big boys and get some PR but for sure the headlines so far haven't been good and Brad has come out slugging against his former team which again doesn't look good. The sailing community is drawing a collective yawn and now if this case gets wrapped in the Oracle case then we could be looking at a massive, massive delay to the DoG match up. All in all, Dalts in my book has created a storm that will keep not only his ex-employees out on the dole but also the whole AC community and he's stumbling around like a bumbling buffoon way, way out of his depth...   Full Story »
