Event: J22 Midwinter Championship Dates: 14/Mar/08 - 16/Mar/08 Host Club: Rush Creek Yacht Club Location: Heath, TX, USA Contact: Jake Scott | Email: jscott@crsins.com Phone: | Fax: More Info: On behalf of the International J/22 Class Association, the USA Class Office and J/22 Fleet 46, Southern Yacht Club is pleased to invite all sailors to the 2007 Smith Barney Midwinter Championship Regatta. The Midwinters are returning to Southern Yacht Club and will be held from March 8 - 11 of 2007. SYC is extremely proud and pleased to have this prestigious event return to Lake Pontchartrain. As most of you know, the main Clubhouse was destroyed by fire during Hurricane Katrina, but we have a 7,000 + square foot temporary facility in place with a full bar, restaurant, banquet facilities, two hoists, and plans underway for a new permanent clubhouse. Although some of the recovery is still going slow in the New Orleans area, SYC is going full speed ahead with many national events, including the USODA Midwinter Championships, the National High School Great Oaks Regatta, the J/22 Midwinters and the 2007 U.S. Sailing Youth Championships, to name a few. Additionally, U.S. Sailing will be holding both its National Sailing Program Symposium and its One Design Sailing Symposium in New Orleans. Virtually all of the major hotels have been back up and running for some time and the French Quarter survived the storm with barely a scratch. The Regatta Committee has already begun work to host what we hope will be another memorable event for all participants. March provides some of the best sailing conditions on Lake Pontchartrain and a Preliminary Notice of Race and a link to all Regatta information can be found at Southernyachtclub.org. Finally and certainly and not least, we are extremely pleased to announce that Smith Barney has signed on as our title sponsor for the 2007 Midwinter Championships. We could not have a more enthusiastic sponsor and their sponsorship will help defray costs and guarantee another fantastic Midwinters.
