Coutts loads the bases...
Say what you like about Russell Coutts - he's aggressive, single-minded, ruthless, couldn't run a bath etc etc - but it's quite amazing his svengali-like draw to the world's top yachters. This morning the news that grinder Jono Macbeth had signed for Oracle filtered through and I've got a strong feeling that it's merely the tip of the iceberg. There are almost two camps in sailing: those who are good enough to sail with Coutts and those that aren't...so it's no wonder that the AC is stalled because Alinghi know deep down that if they meet our Russ on the water, there's just no way he's going to lose...For that reason alone, I don't expect to see the AC out of court and back on the water anytime soon. Appeal, appeal, appeal.... Meanwhile Russell keeps his hand in down in Dubai with his RC44's - doing a bit of training before he comes and shows me how to sail my Mumm!
