I need to get with the times...apparently!
I'm all for being criticised and I appreciate it when someone has the guts to email me and let me know exactly what they think of me! So here's a good one regarding my confusion about the Laser Worlds and all the different fleets that operate...I'll take your comments onboard Mr Streeter and do my best to get with the times: Dear Magnus,Your suggestion that the fleet system used by the Laser class (along with many other classes with large numbers of entries, including the Optimist) is "atypical of a committee decision" demonstrates your lack of knowledge on the subject and also suggests a lack of experience sailing in very large fleets. The fleet system is no more difficult to understand for the non-sailor, than are the finer points of rugby or cricket to the non-initiated. Just what is the "overall message" that you propose has been lost? The system produces better, fairer racing for the sailors, hence allowing the top sailors to shine, and the public to see who they are. Is that not the "overall message"? Once again you pose a innocent query/debate in a confromtational manner, blaming ISAF for perceived wrongs. This is all the more surprising in this case, since you normally implore the sailing public to get with the times, through your support of the the Moth class and Kitesurfing.
