You can't gag me...
I find it utterly ridiculous and reprehensible that the British Olympic Association (almost as bad as ISAF) chose to try and gag the British athletes from speaking out about human rights violations in China, host of this year's Olympic Games. I mean, for a start what is Ben Ainslie, Sarah Ayton or Iain Percy really going to say anyway that would make a difference? Just getting around the windless Qingdao racetrack will be hard enough let alone taking a political stance. So if our Olympians can't say anything then who can? Well me... Let's just list a small smidgen of China's record: discrimination in employment, exploitation of workers, arbitary detention, torture and ill-treatment of prisoners, suppression of religious freedom, restriction on free speech and the media, controls on expressions and associations, lack of judicial independence and due process....the list just goes on and on and I haven't even touched on environmental terrorism, pollution, smog or the welfare system... But whisper it quietly because the BOA are frightened to death of upsetting our communist cousins and the British Government (although there's not a lot of difference between the two)...plus, what on earth would we do without all that cheap plastic crap that the country produces and ships over here in crates? Christmas jut wouldn't be the same... Have a backbone BOA or else you'll soon resemble that amoebic entity ISAF...or ISAFasaurus as we like to call it in polite yachting circles...    Full Story »
