There are a few times in your life when you meet someone that absolutely astounds you and on Boxing Day last year whilst supping the Morton's vintage champers I ran into Cowes's greatest lady sailor (and I don't say that lightly), Gavia Wilkinson-Cox who is absolutely determined to take her sailing into the stratosphere. Having chosen the massively competitive Dragon class to do her business in, Gavia has steadily climbed the rankings and is now forever in the hunt at the hottest regattas. She's just recorded a second place in the season opener in Monaco (behind Marcus Wieser) but look out Dragon sailors, I hear that Gavia is close to almost going professional and has the mindset of "doing an Olympic campaign" in the fleet. My bet is that this wonderfully inspiring lady will be the first female Dragon World Champion...mark my words, she has real fire in her belly!
