Safe Travels Walter
After many years of preparation and planning Walter Baumgartner finally slipped the moorings on the 7th of December to go off and cruise. Walter sent this message: It is with very mixed feelings that we bid you all a fond farewell. We sailed away from Port Elizabeth on Friday 7th December 2007 with great excitement and anticipation, and plan to be away for some years. The club means a lot to us and we will miss you all (except the ore dust!!). Hopefully, we will fly home to PE from time to time and look forward to catching up with you all at the club.We are presently tied up on a swing mooring in Knysna, where we have completed our final checks and provisioning, and move on to Cape Town within the next few days. Thereafter, Walvis Bay for a few weeks of inland touring, then St Helena and Ascension island, then Brazil. South America will keep us busy for quite a long time, then up the West Indies to Cuba, Mexico, the Panama Canal, Galapagos and north to Canada and Alaska. Whilst in the Gulf of Mexico we plan to join up with Frik Kotze who is sailing on his Hunter 46. Alaska is as far as our planning takes us for the moment, but it is certainly not the end of our travels. Our email address is ZR5111[at]sailmail.com, we will always reply but it may take a while!. Please DON'T SEND PICTURES, FORWARDS, BIG FILES and keep it only to text as we are using a radio signal system (SSB Radio with modem). We wish you all a happy Xmas and good and exciting 2008, and many hours of easy sailing. "Adieu" Walter and Jacqui Full Story »
