Winding Down -- or Up?
With AC 32 now behind us, and AC 33 having officially begun with the issuance of the new Protocol yesterday, BMW ORACLE Racing 2003-2007 is in it's final few days. Since we were excused from further participation by Luna Rossa in the LVC Semis, our team has been steadily winding down current operations under the experienced hand of Laurent Esquier (FRA/USA, Operations Director). In the meantime, Mirko Groeschner (GER, Marketing Director) and his team have successfully, and very capably, wound up our VIP guest hospitality program which our loyal Blog readers will know has continued apace through the final race of the AC 32 Match. From 11 July all but a very few, essentially caretaker, team members will be left to wind up any remaining "de-mobilization" duties. Whether BMW ORACLE Racing continues in some shape or form remains to be seen. A study of the new Protocol, it's validity, and an understanding of the Defender's real intentions -- given as yet no concrete class rule, no venue and no date -- is, of course, key. This morning many in the media seem to be a bit wound up over it. Your Ed. committed to keeping the Blog up and running through the end of the Cup, and have enjoyed immensely doing so. But all good things come to an end, and the BOB will wind up next Wednesday, 11 July, as well. In the meantime, we will try to answer any outstanding questions, have a few concluding thoughts and reminisces, and take a peak down what promises to be a winding AC 33 road.
