Q&A: AC 32 Measurement Committee
We have been asked about the make-up and background of the Measurement Committee, which has garnered a fair bit of ink the past couple weeks over their various interps issued on the backstay rules, and now the protest by ETNZ against Alinghi over the mainsail halyard (after the measurers declined to lodge a protest). Click here for the official ACM web page with pics and bios of the Measurement Committee. If we gave the impression in an earlier post that it was Ken McAlpine (AUS) who was aboard Alinghi's SUI 100 yesterday for the post-race inspection of the main halyard release mechanism, then we should set the record straight. It was Mr Don Martin (CAN), not to be confused with Don Martin (1931-2000), the popular American cartoon artist whose best-known work appeared in MAD magazine from 1956 to 1988. Here is an example of his madcap style with one of his most famous cartoons.... Disclaimer -- any resemblance the late Mr Martin's cartoon has to testimony given by any witness in the protest room today is purely and utterly coincidental. Click to enlarge. Full Story »
