Two remarkable AC Match winning streaks came to an end this afternoon: Alinghi's 6-0, and Brad Butterworth's 16-0. Yesterday it looked like Brad might break out a cigar and cognac, so cheerfully confident he appeared on the last leg. Today? No cigar. Full marks to ETNZ on hanging close and capitalizing on Alinghi's crucial failure to cover on Leg 3. And where'd the Kiwis find the downwind speed? Just the slightly softer breeze and flatter sea? An Alinghi supporter at Jose Luis Soler's marvelous restaurant Veleria in the Port America's Cup last evening. Alinghi may be smoking tonight, but not likely cigars. And they have an off-day tomorrow to stew about today's loss before racing resumes on Tuesday. Regardless, they still look plenty fast and your Ed. stands by the prediction of Alinghi 5-3 over ETNZ.
