Old dog; new tricks.Larry and his buddy Steve J would be pleased. Slowly your Ed. is weaning himself off MS -- not that we (in the royal or papal sense) have made that a strategic priority or are on some sort of a mission. Nor, per se, do we have anything against Mr Gates' software or his company's personal computing hegemony. After enjoying a pleasant and successful few months with Mozilla's Firefox browser, this week your Ed. switched to their increasingly-popular email client called Thunderbird. This after buying (!) Office 2003 for the new laptop and failing to get Outlook to work properly -- the infamous "network password won't save" bug -- even after hours of googling the problem and trying the various suggested solutions official and otherwise, and consulting a few techno-nerd friends on the team. As with most AC teams, in that department we are blessed with talent if not patience. After using FF for a few days now, and getting it tricked out with some of the nice (and free) add-ons, there's no turning back. It's not true. You can teach an old dog new tricks. Out with Outlook. Go the Thunderbird. Highly recommended. Besides, the color of their logo goes well with the BOB's blue look-theme. ;-) Full Story »
