NZ dinghy skipper convicted
A New Zealand man has been convicted after his ill-equipped dinghy sank and a passenger drowned in December 2005, according to Maritime New Zealand (MNZ). The agency reports that Sapo Muliipu of Hastings has been found guilty by a jury in the Napier District Court on a charge of operating the dinghy ‘in a manner causing unnecessary danger or risk’, after it capsized and his friend Tafaofale Fitimase, 32, drowned near the Clive River Mouth around midnight on 17 December 2005.
