Louis Vuitton Semi-finals New level
It was another difficult day for bmw oracle racing ................... Racing commenced on time and although skipper of BMW Oracle Chris Dickson protected the right side of the course their starboard mast flipper was waving around on the mast. Luna Rossa also did a good job of starting with speed to the left and was able to use their upwind speed advantage to take the game beyond the starboard lay line . A 13 second advantage at the top mark was enough to allow Luna rossa to sail a tactical downwind race to the 2nd mark and pick the right again. It was there that hearts were in mouths as the two boats split by up to 2700 metres ,but hands were on hearts in the BMW Oracle boat as it became obvious when the boats reunited that Luna Rossa had made big gains near the top mark. A loose cover early and as the last run neared the end a tighter cover was enough to allow Luna Rossa a lead in the semifinal of 3 to1. James Spithill and his team from Luna Rossa are taking the game to a new level The wash from the largest spectator fleet seen here in Valencia had a noticable effect on the spinnakers today and there will be some tired sail trimmers tonight. The only colour to wear here today was green but to no avail and in the other race the Spanish were defeated in methodical fashion by the New Zealanders Both semi finals are now 3 to 1. Full Story »
