Today, the wind was very shifty coming down in very short puffs. New Zealand sailed smart by not going out to the corners etc because it was important to sail short term, immediate puffs. Any long term wind was still short and influenced physically by the wind coming of the shore. So, Oracle just split to one side putting all their eggs in the right hand basket which didn´t work. The first races of the Semi Finals saw an offshore breeze that varied from eight to 18 knots in strength and shifted by nearly 180 degrees. In fact, on the final run, the boats started under spinnaker and finished under genoa, tacking for the finishing line.The crews on Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Challenge figured out the tricky conditions best, drawing first blood in the 'first to five' Semi Final.
