Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robin 2 Ends
Last day Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robin 2 starts off well with a building breeze, bright sun and sparkling waters. Just through the heavy haze you can see Alinghi two boat testing in the distance. 2:00 starting sequence Mascalzone Vincenzo giving a tap on the head to Cameron Dunn which maybe made difference. Swedes up windward w/maz rounding first around mark. Finish changing spinnakers, grazie Italia, Grazie Napoli Luna R Spanish With 30 seconds to go luna holds up and spanish try to bail by going under the committe boat to the right side. Once over there, Luna followed chasing and put themselves between the spanish and the committe boat. Once the gun had gone off, they headed back with their tail between their legs. Jesper Radich came out firing but got spanked. The Spanish would further shoot themselves by hitting the mark with their spinnnaker making them do a penalty circle before finishing. The closest race on the South course was Shosholoza beating Arreva Challenge. New Zealand steals the show today by keeping their cool against Oracle. Nobody wanted to mix it up at the start and after going off to the right corner Oracle, to leeward, sailed NZ up to the line over a span of a minute. Both boats had decided which side they wanted and legged it out with full speed across the line. New Zealand seemed to have a advantage right off the line, right side being favored and with more pressure. After 10-15 boatlengths, New Zealand tacked to the right side letting Oracle continue on. After tacking back, New Zealand built on their small lead with more wind to the right.Oracle stayed on the left and tacked under the port layline to cross under New Zealand with over a hundred meter deficit. Not giving any chances to come back, they maintained a loose cover to bring home the extra bonus points and top dog spot on the Louis Vuitton Leader board. Full Story »
