First Race Act 13
The race got off in a light 5-7 breeze with a few problems for Alinghi and some other boats who got squeezed out at the committee boat. Unfortunately for Alinghi they would be the only boat who would have to go around again but showed again why they are the champions. They immediately followed +39 who took a flyer to the right which paid off handsomely when a rain cloud shifted the wind to the right. +39 easily crossed the fleet who had stubbornly gone to the left and Alighi was back in the game again. +39 rounded the mark first and after a short clearing jibe it was a one jibe run for the fleet who all immediately headed to the right side again for the second upwind leg. The fleet repeated the previous downwind tactics those those who went too far were left floundering when the rain cloud which had been prevalent moved on. Oracle stayed in the middle of the course and was rewarded by a first win for Act 13. Full Story »
