SKUD-18 Chosen for Two-Person Event
On November 7, 2005 the decision was made and the SKUD-18 was chosen as the equipment for the two-person event. In April, 2005 the International Foundation of Disabled Sailing announced a new two-person keelboat event for the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing. Following the announcement, a committee was formed to evaluate potential boats for the event. Major contenders were the Martin 16, an established class, and the SKUD-18, which currently only exists as a prototype. Although we have not sailed a SKUD-18, we are confident in the committee's decision. We look forward to and are working to obtain a SKUD-18. The IFDS is regulating the first shipment of SKUD-18s and giving micromanagement to each national sailing authority. The USA has been allocated three SKUD-18 boats. U. S. Sailing requires eligible teams to apply by January 6, 2006. If Team Eagle is chosen to receive one of the first three boats, Team Eagle must put a deposit of approximately $8,000 by January 16, 2006. Receiving one of the first three SKUD-18s will give Team Eagle a huge advantage over our competition. We hope your generosity will allow us to achieve this immediate goal and we urge you to donate today. Full Story »
