Two days in Newport
We had two days of great sailing in Newport this past week. On Wednesday we experienced wind in the upper teens and on Thursday the winds were slightly calmer in the lower teens. The weather was excellent and we forgot all about the prior week of rain. Sarah Skeels and Bob Jones practiced with us on both days. On Wednesday we practiced between Fort Adams and the Jamestown Bridge. This provided a good downwind leg to practice flying the Spinnaker as the wind was coming out of the southwest. Wind gusts up words of 22 kn proved challenging, but we continue to improve in this area. We remained in the inner harbor for Thursday's practice. Betsy Alison set up a windward-lured course for us to practice our starts. We sailed the course every third start. Maureen and I feel both days of practice went very well. We are happy with the progress to date and continue to gel as a team. A big thanks to my parents, Dan, Betsy, and Brian for their help in Newport. Full Story »
