Salacia: Day 12 - An Exercise in Frustration
One frustrating night! All day yesterday the wind was getting lighter and lighter. By the evening it was down to under 10 knots and had swung around to the East causing us to head 40 degrees higher than our course. With the swells out here, and the rolling that goes along with them, 10 knots of wind will just not keep the sails full. I tried heading up, tried wing on wing dead downwind, and even jibed to head South to see if that gave me a better angle. But, no luck, the wind kept dropping and I eventually gave up. Keep in mind that this is all at 1am and I'm too tired to want to deal with this! And, I'm doing this as quietly as I can, trying not to wake Dee. I downloaded a weather map and saw that this light wind area extended for hundreds of miles! I swore, quietly, started the engine, and motored west at 5 knots. Full Story »
