Final Results - Trophée Clairefontaine
www.Sail-Search.com: Thanks to Luc Dubois and his crew, Pierre-Yves Jorand and Yves Detrey, the national Swiss anthem was played this afternoon in the Marina Real Juan Carlos 1st, the port that hosted the 2007 America's Cup, with a superb victory of the Swiss crew as a conclusion to the Trophée Clairefontaine de Valencia. A victory they snatched at the very end of the ninth and ultimate leg of this nineteenth edition of this major rendez-vous of international sailing champions ahead of the recent French Olympic Bronze medallist Nicolas Charbonnier. The Frenchman Loïck Peyron, finished in third place on the podium. The Swiss have fought hard for this victory, winning four out of the nine legs. Until the start of the ninth and last leg, the ranking was still uncertain. When Nicolas Charbonnier started the last race in front, many spectators watching from the quay thought the young bronze medallist in 470 was going to win the Trophée Clairefontaine de Valencia which would have been an incredible achievement as it is the very first time that he has taken part in a competition on a catamaran. Loïck Peyron lost the Trophée Clairefontaine de Valencia by being boxed in on the last starting line. Despite his skills, he failed to come back with the leaders of the race, Jean-Pierre Dick, Luc Dubois and Ed Baird (Alinghi Black). Final General Ranking (nine legs): 1. Luc Dubois (Alinghi Red - SUI.), 60 pts (6,6,1,1,4,1,3,6,1) 2. Nicolas Charbonnier (FRA), 55 pts (3,3,3,8,2,3,1,2,5) 3. Loïck Peyron (FRA), 55 pts (1,2,2,5,1,5,6,3,7) 4.
