Mobile SMS Rules The Waves At Skandia Cowes Week
http://www.sail-search.com/news/ www.Sail-search.com: Over a quarter of the 1000 competing yachts at Skandia Cowes Week this week are using mobile SMS survey technology provided by Southampton-based eDigitalResearch to text their opinions on the quality of the course, the accuracy of weather forecasts and the standard of race management. Three quarters of the people competing at Skandia Cowes Week pre-registered to receive the SMS text surveys. At the end of each sailing day, a series of questions relating to the day’s racing is automatically sent to the competitors. Their responses are then analysed within minutes by bespoke software designed by eDigitalResearch. The report is then collated which is sent to the management team at Cowes Week Ltd each morning. The majority of the feedback provided has been positive, but any concerns raised are always assessed by the race management team at Skandia Cowes Week. Stuart Quarrie, CEO of Cowes Week Limited, explains: “The SMS surveys provide us with instant feedback so that we can make any improvements necessary to ensure the enjoyment of our entire fleet. For example, on one day the majority of the XOD Class felt that their course was too long, this feedback was passed on to the course setters who noted it for future courses.” One of the competitors is 23 year-old Alec Russell, who is competing in the Laser SB3 class. Having come in 9th, 10th and 11th place in his class at the beginning of the week, Alec is using the SMS survey service in the hope that the course and weather will work to his advantage so that he can scoop a top ten place by the end of the week. Alec comments: “The racing is great and the atmosphere is fantastic. The SMS service is a great way of being able to communicate my thoughts and feelings about the course and the event in general, which I have been doing every day. I am hoping that my feedback to guide improvements will help to navigate me to success!” Full Story »
