Second Time's A Charm
I just returned from Larchmont, N.Y., where I raced in the Vanguard 15 Nationals over the weekend. This was take two of the regatta, which was rescheduled after a lack of wind prevented racing in June. Summer winds on Long Island Sound are notoriously fickle. The light breeze that blew in on Friday and provided three days of solid racing may have been a gift from the gods to event chairman Peter Beardsley, whose tireless enthusiasm and careful planning helped convince 77 of 114 boats to return to the Larchmont YC for take two. The racing played out with all the intensity of a college intersectional, and it was only fitting that former ICSA Coed Dinghy champion Danny Pletsch and crew Magill Amerante came out on top. I finished a mere 383 points behind the victors, through no fault of my stellar crew, Gabriella Macari, a captain of the Fordham University Sailing Team. I'm working on a story about the class and the event for an upcoming issue of Sailing World. In the meantime, check out the results here. Full Story »
