Aquila Pacific: Across the equator!
We hit it about a quarter to six this AM, rolling easily on a beam reach.There was no big line across the water, like on the charts - what's up with that? Maybe it will show up on the television replays. I was off-watch, and Sandra woke me up to see it happen - I was blearily wiping sleep out of my eyes as I saw all the zeros on the chartplotter. We had a high-five, a kiss and gave quick thanks to Neptune, and I went back to bed. The official celebration happened at a more civilized time - we cracked the nice bottle of bubby from Dora and David (thanks!!) with our lunch today, and gave more toasts - to Aquila, to ourselves, and gave a splash to Neptune, along with the cork. Real cork, and biodegradable - a sign of the quality of the champagne. It's funny how kind Neptune has been to us, since most of what we give him is our trash. A very benevolent spirit. Full Story »
