The South Pacific Cruise of Diomedea: Off to the Lau Group
After a few days of restocking and running repairs we have set sail once more, bound for the Lau group. They are otherwise known as the Explorer Isles. Today we left Savusavu in no wind however and motored all the way into the Somosomo strait, next to Taveuni. Our plan had us going to Matagi for tonight but instead we have come to the this very narrow and pleasant inlet. It is a renowned hurricane hole and has good holding in mud. Ashore we visited a family and had tea and crackers with them. They describe themselves as not native fijians but are a fiji-european blend. Thus, they do not live in a village and have a freehold title on their own property and house. Tomorrow we will sail around the top of Taveuni and then head off SE for Vanuabalavu. Full Story »
