Cruising with Osprey: Beautiful Maine
I am now in Maine - Gosh it is beautiful up here! I had forgotten how wonderful the scenery is - rocky granite shores and pine trees. Just to back up a moment... I finished up a very busy week in Nashua, NH and drove up to Damariscotta, ME on Monday. I was back at work on Tuesday, still reeling a bit from a totally sleepless night on Sunday - saving lives is HARD work. Thankfully the pace up here is much slower and I have been able to catch up on my sleep. The best bit is that I actually had a day off yesterday which was lovely. Normally I don't like to take time off when I am away from the boat (no work means no pay and so that is not a good use of my time) but I was very happy to have a chance to relax. I visited the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and spent a few hours walking around these extensive gardens that have been skillfully landscaped to blend into the natural beauty of the coast. Yesterday evening I visited Corning and Tita from "Blessed Spirit". We had met them briefly in the Chesapeake and again in Marathon and have kept in frequent contact during our travels. We missed them in the Bahamas as we were in the Abacos and they were in the Exumas. However, thay are now back home and live just down the road from where I am staying. Tita is a fantastic cook and we had a lovely dinner. Their home is wonderful - right on the river with "Blessed Spirit" gently bobbing on a mooring nearby - I am very jealous. Tita is also an avid gardener and everything was in full bloom - spectacular. I must say that is the one thing I miss from my landlubber days - my garden. The weather is lovely up here - so much more comfortable than the humid and sweltering south. We are definitely bringing "Osprey" up here next summer. Full Story »
