Out there!
Well today was an impressive day out on the water for Qingdao! We sailed in a warm 7-9knts with a mild sea state. There were some interesting elements to the day, foggy enough for you to be unable to see the top mark until about 200m from it....... Should make calling lay lines fun (blindfolded!). There was still a fair amount of the Algie/ weed out there, mainly now just smaller patches but you still sail around like you a zig zagging between road cones! We had an even closer look at the removal technique of the locals and after seeing it up close l really want to get a photo! There a 4 guys to a boat (200+boats). The boats a typical looking wooden Chinese "Junk" boats and piled 6 feet high in the middle is the Algie which is being removed by one guy using a rake the same size you would use on your drive way at home. Except these rakes are made from Bamboo and bent bits of fence wire.... talk about doing it tough, power in numbers i guess!?But all in all it was a great day out there and we ticked a lot of things off the list for being ready for Race 1. Tomorrow is another day down there ticking things off and checking in on our relative performance with some of the other guys, later in the week we plan to do some short racing with all the Stars here training. Looking forward to it! Full Story »
